Since I wrote about the characteristics of the Proverbs 31 Woman, I thought it only fair that I write about the man, too. After all, those of us who aspire to be like her should also aspire to have a husband like hers, too. Right? Unfortunately, these verses alone do not tell us a lot about him.

Who is the Proverbs 31 Man?
We know that he has an exceptional wife; she is rare, hard to find (Proverbs 31:10). So how does he find her? I think it is safe to conclude that he must have favor with the Lord to find such a valuable woman to marry. God must have put her along his path.
We know that his heart safely trusts and relies on his wife; because of her, he has no lack of opportunity to earn an honest living and she does him only good all the days of her life (Proverbs 31:11-12).
We know that he is a family man since they have children, and that he is faithful and loyal to his wife; he appreciates and praises her above all women (Proverbs 31:28-29). We also know that he is well-known and respected by the elders of the city (Proverbs 31:23).
Since that is all we know about the Proverbs 31 Man, I decided to search through the Bible to see what else God says about men and marriage.
It is Not Good for Man to be Alone
God says this way back in the beginning and is the reason he created Eve for Adam.
“Now the LORD God said, “It is not good (beneficial) for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [one who balances him—a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.”
Genesis 2:18 AMP
God wants men to get married, to leave their mother and father to create a home together with their own wives (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-5; Mark 10:7-8; Ephesians 5:32; 1 Corinthians 7:2). God says that two are better than one, and even better is a cord with three strands, God being the third part of the union (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12).
Wives Are a Blessing
We already know that the Proverbs 31 Woman is described as having worth far above rubies or pearls (vs. 10), but the value of wives is also described elsewhere in the Bible.
God says that material wealth is an inheritance from earthly fathers, but that a “wise, understanding, and sensible wife is a gift and a blessing” from Him (Proverbs 19:14).
“He who finds a [true and faithful] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor and approval from the LORD.”
Proverbs 18:22 AMP
How simple for Adam to have his wife brought to him. Every other man has to look for his, but not without reward: God says that living joyfully with their wives is the reward in life for men (Ecclesiastes 9:9). Did you know that? I think this is a good scripture for women to remember; I didn’t, but I will from now on.
Husband Responsibilities
God has some expectations for men who marry His daughters:
- Husbands are to be faithful to their wives (Proverbs 5:15, 17-20; 1 Corinthians 7:2).
- Husbands are to love their wives as their very own selves and as Christ loved the Church, sacrificially (Ephesians 5:25, 33).
- Husbands are to provide for their wives (1 Timothy 5:8).
- Husbands are not to be resentful toward their wives about the commitment of marriage (Colossians 3:19).
- Husbands are to live in harmony with their wives, showing her honor and respect (1 Peter 3:7).
- Husbands are to be faithful to their wives (Proverbs 5:15).
“Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,”
Ephesians 5:25

“God says that living joyfully with their wives is their reward in life” for men. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that verse before. This post is brilliant how God had you pull all these attributes of a godly husband from His Word. Thank you for putting together this very encouraging post! Bless you sweet sister! ❤❤❤
Yes, I know, I do not remember that scripture, but that is how He put it in the Amplified version. You are welcome and thank you so much! 😊
