L.A. Living

I am so thankful that my cousin, Eva, offered me a place to stay while I looked for a job (and for my mother, who put money into my account and paid my rent until then!). It took me over three months to find something full time and almost five months to move into my own apartment.

Even though I had created a preliminary list from a search I had conducted while back in Michigan, looking for my first apartment in L.A. was overwhelming. There are so many neighborhoods to choose from, and they each have their pros and cons.

The way I ultimately decided where to live was that one property had a special: first month free!

Though it was not on my list, it was the best choice. Not only did I have instant savings from not having to pay that first month’s rent, I also ended up close to work and in a very nice neighborhood. I love how God is always looking out for me!!!

Although I was blessed to end up in that apartment building, it took some getting used to living Downtown Los Angeles. It was close to work, but I still had to use GPS to find my way home for several weeks because my route was always changing due to various construction projects. And I discovered that it was not worth the hassle driving to the grocery store even though that meant I had to go more often to have less to carry home. Once I learned the shortcut through Grand Hope Park, it was not so bad and even enjoyable.

But my favorite thing about living in L.A. was meeting the people. I was so surprised by how friendly almost everyone was! I had never been around so many people who are so willing to meet new people, hang out, and have fun. I enjoyed meeting my neighbors at our community social gatherings, and at the pool.

I no longer live Downtown Los Angeles. Now I live in Hollywood Hills and have a whole new neighborhood to explore and learn. Where should I start?
