I am by no means a fashion expert, but I do enjoy expressing myself through style. And there is no better reason to shop than in preparation for a new season, especially spring.
“Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; And she smiles at the future [knowing that she and her family are prepared].”
– Proverbs 31:25 AMP
My best tip for preparing for any season, fashion-wise, is to stick to the classics. This season though, I decided to do some research on the trends for this spring in case I might change my mind. And now… my advice is still stick to the classics. Unless of course you want to invest in a spring leather pencil skirt, or in a disco-collared jacket or button-down that you might never wear again, which is totally fine; those are definitely fun pieces. To get the most wear for your money though, go with classics.
“Her clothing is linen, pure and fine, and purple [wool].”
– Proverbs 31:22b AMP
I must say, I was pleased to discover that I ended up with a 2020 spring trend when I bought my polka dot dress that I am wearing in my profile pic. I had no idea that it would become a spring trend when I decided to buy it; I just bought it because I liked it, which I guess would be another piece of my fashion advice: buy what you like. Some 2021 spring trends that I ended up with include a black face mask and sorbet pastel tones in my soft lavender trench coat. How about you? Do you already own any of the following trending items?
2021 Spring Trends
- Oversized Shoulder Pad Boyfriend Jackets
- Black Face Masks
- Head Scarves
- Sorbet Pastel Tones
- Yellow Handbags
- Folk Inspired Coats
- White Knee High Boots
- Yellow and Camel Color Styling
- Pop Blue Accessories
- Fringing on Handbags
- Vibrant Prints
- Monochromatic Looks
- Big Bags
- Oversized Silhouettes
- Crocheted Clothing & Accessories
If not, don’t despair. The best thing about trends is that they change often.

When I think of preparing for spring (which in L.A., is winter), it brings raincoats and jackets to mind. So last year, I also decided to invest in a pair of rain boots. Yes, I actually thought that since I no longer live and work downtown, there would be no more driving from one underground parking garage to another, and that I would actually have to get out into the elements. Those rain boots I got for Christmas so that I could be ready for the rainy season last year only to find us all quarantined are, therefore, still virtually brand new. Since Hunter boots are classic, though, they will still be in style and ready for the next rainy day. 🙂
Get these Black Gloss Tall Back Adjustable Rain Boot or the Adjustable Gloss Boots in spring colors (see below).
I still suggest that you buy what you need in advance of the season, especially if you want to save money and have a better selection to choose from. I had decided to add a new rain jacket to my Christmas wish list, too. And though I didn’t get to wear it much before the pandemic, I was ready for the next rainy day. Well, I almost was…
Thankfully sunny days abounded because I did not know that I needed one more thing until I saw it at a Women’s Conference that I was attending. And that thing that I needed is my beautiful Obama umbrella sold by one of the vendors. Now I am ready for the rain, whenever it decides to come.
So my last bit of fashion advice is keep your eyes open for unexpected finds like this one. I did not attend the conference expecting to shop for spring essentials, but was so thankful to find this umbrella there; it was the only one in color and full-sized, and I bought it. The fact that it effortlessly completed my rainy-day look was a bonus!
What spring fashion advice would you add to mine? What are some ways that you prepare for Spring? Please comment below.
I hope you are getting out and enjoying the lovely spring weather! Until next time…🌦🌂

I prepare for spring by packing away my winter clothing, (and of course shopping lol). I LOVE your lavender trench coat, and Obama umbrella!!
Thank you, Lenore. Packing away winter clothing and shopping are the most exciting things to do in preparation for spring. I love it! Thanks for sharing and for the compliments!
I love the magazine inspired umbrella its really a rare find
Thank you, I am really happy to have found it!
Cute outfit! I have NO sense of style, so this way fun to see. Here in the Midwest, we always have hopes of an early spring, but it faithfully comes in with all the rain and many cool nights. I can definitely take a page out of your book here! Your rain boots are classy – I need to upgrade mine, I think! 😉
Hi Kimberly, what part of the midwest? I’m from Michigan, so I understand exactly what you mean! The one thing about that brand of rain boots is that they also sell warm boot socks, so they would be perfect for a midwestern spring. I’m glad this article inspired you. 😊
I love taking out all my clothes for the spring weather and going through them to think of creative new ways to wear them. I really like your advice to be open to unexpected finds!
Thanks, Emma, and that’s an excellent idea that I think I will try before I even think of buying anything new! 🙃
These are great ideas! I personally love getting out florals and bright colors for spring– I feel like I wear mostly neutrals during winter, and like to switch it up.
Me too, totally. Spring colors are cheery at just the right time. Thank you so much! 😊
I love that you included a “spring colored” trench coat, plus a black trench coat as a staple! I’ve learned growing up that having staple pieces are SO important for any season, they go with everything!!
Thank you, I was delighted when I saw a trench coat in that color! But you are right, we also need those staples so we are ready for every occasion. 👍🏽
I love the umbrella and the rain boot/trench coat look, definitely ready for spring! I am looking for a good pair of rain boots and these look awesome.
Thank you, Leeandra! You can probably get a good deal on them now; lots of retailers have slashed prices and are offering free shipping!
What a cute coat!
I love to visit yard sales in the spring especially to find cute clothes for my kids.
I bet you can get some great finds for children since they grow out of their clothes so fast. Just make sure to get something for yourself, too, mom!!!
I really like your blog….and you have great fashion ideas!
Thanks, Brenda, I appreciate it! 😊
I’m not much of a fashion person (just ask my 14 year old daughter!) so I enjoyed reading your tips! 🙂
Aww, what do teens know, anyway! Thanks 😊
OMG! I love the tennis shoes! Really reminds me of spring. I am working on organizing my closet and was feeling a little depressed sorting through all my old clothes and especially the ones that do not fit anymore LOL! I am truly inspired to get started on re-vamping my closet and my style. Bring it on Spring!! Thanks so much!
Aww, I am so glad you were inspired since that is exactly what I was trying to do! Oh, and I know, I love those tennis shoes, too! I am sure crafty people can easily make these with a quick stop at Michael’s. I am not one of those people, unfortunately. 😄
I prepare for Spring by cleaning out the closets and drawers and start putting the Winter clothing to rest and doing loads of shorts and tank tops in the laundry… They were clean but just like anything else… just need a little freshening up.
Yes, I agree. When clothes have been stored away for six months or more, a little freshening is understood! Thank you for the comment. 😊
I prepare by cleaning out my closet and boxing up winter clothes. It’s different now in Florida though because I don’t wear winter clothes!! Haha
I do love that dress you have. It’s totally my style. :)!
Thank you so much! You can get the dress from ModCloth, if they still have any available. Thanks for the comment! 😊
