God’s daughters live life His way. Worldly women live life their own way. We can all fall into this temptation when we seek worldly wisdom instead of the wisdom of God. Eve was the first to fall into this temptation and Satan is still up to the same tricks today.
We are inundated with worldly wisdom on social media, but we are not to conform to this world (Romans 12:2). Our identity and the way we view it and how we live our lives should be shaped by the Word of God alone, not by the views and opinions of man.
How to Be a Daughter of God
I mostly discuss the Proverbs 31 Woman because this site is about becoming one. Today we are going to learn about becoming a daughter of God from another woman in Proverbs who is the opposite of the Proverbs 31 Woman. Let’s call her the Proverbs 7 Woman. The first thing we learn about her is the way that she dresses:
“The woman approached him, seductively dressed and sly of heart.” – Proverbs 7:10 NLT
Dress for Success
As daughters of God, we need to be more concerned with what God thinks about us, instead of what man thinks. Our clothing should be a reflection of our inner beauty.
In 1 Timothy 2:9, we learn that our clothing should be respectable, not provocative like the sly woman in Proverbs 7.
God wants us to be clothed in His righteousness, in His likeness so that we will be free from shame, something Adam and Eve weren’t able to accomplish with the fig leaves they sewed together in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:7-21). We need to be more thoughtful about our spiritual covering than our clothing. (Romans 13:14).
In God’s perspective, inward beauty is the priority and the outward beauty should be the reflection of that.
The world’s perspective is that only the outward beauty matters, but the “clothing” that God is most impressed by is the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. God considers that precious (1 Peter 3:3-5).

Trust God with Your Whole Heart
As daughters of God, we need to place our confident trust in the Lord. Let Jesus have the wheel, including in our relationships, unlike the sly woman of Proverbs 7. In other words, she was devious and calculating in an effort to get what she wanted. The most notable example of a sly woman from the Bible is Delilah, who manipulated Samson into doing what she wanted (Judges 16).
Daughters of God trust in the Lord with our whole hearts and allow Him to direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). We are thankful that His guidance is our reward for trusting Him fully. We ask for God’s help in avoiding the sin of manipulation and to instead trust Him with our futures without fear.
Be Feminine
Being a daughter of God is a choice. We have to decide to be receptive to God’s instructions, and to teach it to those who are younger than us. Mary set an example of an appropriate response to the Lord when she said in Luke 1:38, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done according to your word.” Contrast that with the Proverbs 7 Woman:
“She was the brash, rebellious type…” – Proverbs 7:11a NLT
God expects His daughters to be submissive, not rebellious. We are to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love, peace, and thanksgiving (Colossians 3:17).
“Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30 AMP

Make Home a Priority
Daughters of God prioritize maintaining their home lives over their social lives, unlike the Proverbs 7 woman:
“She was boisterous and rebellious; She would not stay at home. At times she was in the streets, at times in the market places, Lurking and setting her ambush at every corner.” – Proverbs 7:11-12 AMP
It is okay to have obligations outside of the home, but God considers taking care of our homes a top priority, and therefore, so should we. It is one of the things that older women are instructed to teach younger women to do in Titus 2:5, and the Proverbs 31 Woman is our example of this:
“She looks well to how things go in her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.” – Proverbs 31:27 AMP
Daughters of God use our time wisely, on things that please the Lord.

Embrace the Role of Woman
Did you know that Eve means life-giver? Or that our mission as women is to give life as Eve, the first woman, did? We can give life, not just through birth, but also with our words and in our relationships.
The union of man and woman points to the union of Christ and the Church, according to Ephesians 5:2. The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church. They are to love their wives as Christ loves the Church. The Proverbs 7 Woman reverses these roles:
“She threw her arms around him and kissed him…” – Proverbs 7:13a NLT
“He followed her at once…” – Proverbs 7:22a NLT
Husbands should be the leader, not led by the woman. Daughters of God are submissive because that is God’s design for us (Ephesians 5:22).

Make Wise Choices
The Proverbs 7 Woman is the story of a young married woman who pursues a relationship with a single man (Proverbs 7:15-19). As daughters of God, it is important that we pursue holiness in our sexual conduct because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Sexual purity is having sex only within the confines of marriage and only with your own spouse. When we are sexually pure, we honor God with our own bodies, acknowledging that our bodies belong to Him.
“For this is the will of God, that you be sanctified [separated and set apart from sin]: that you abstain and back away from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor [being available for God’s purpose and separated from things profane], not [to be used] in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God and are ignorant of His will; and that [in this matter of sexual misconduct] no man shall transgress and defraud his brother because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we have told you before and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness [to be dedicated, and set apart by behavior that pleases Him, whether in public or in private].” – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 AMP
Being unfaithful, as the Proverbs 7 Woman was, is unwise. We need not follow her lead and instead, we ought to make wisdom our sister. Having wisdom develops good judgment; it promises us a long life, that our steps will not be hindered and nor will we stumble (Proverbs 4:5-19).
And if you have stumbled, we can all be thankful for the transformative power of God’s amazing grace. We are a new creation in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.”
– Psalm 144:12
I am very grateful to be a daughter of God, what about you?
