Beauty for Ashes Inner Beauty

5 Things to Value About Your Worth as a Daughter of God

I hung some pictures of me on the board for a Bible lesson I was teaching my class one day.  The pictures ranged from the time I was a baby through high school.  As you can probably imagine, I did not want to do this.  But since it was part of the lesson, I did so reluctantly.

I still remember one of my third graders looking at my timeline of pictures and raising her hand to say, “I like the way God made you.”  This was not at all the response I was expecting to get.  I was expecting some guffaws.  In fact, one of my students said of my 8th grade picture, “you look like Michael Jackson.” 😂 I’m still not sure if that was a compliment or not. 😅 Anyway, I am not entirely sure who was teaching the Bible lesson that day because it was through the eyes of a child that I was able to see my value as God’s daughter.

What about you?  Do you like the way God made you?  Here are 5 reasons that you should also value the way God made you.

1 – You are Beautiful and Treasured

Do not let the comparison trap blind you to your own beauty.  You are God’s creative masterpiece and should value yourself as such.  I love the promise of God giving me beauty for ashes, that He takes the things that are messed up in our lives and turns them into something beautiful.  Even when we are the ones who messed things up!  All we have to do is humble ourselves and let Him enter in and help us.

“He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11a AMP

I remember a time when I was so afraid for anyone to know the real me. That was until God showed me the real me through the eyes of His Word. I appreciate that so much.  It has made such a big difference in my life. I now have confidence and true humility.

2 – You are Always Loved and Enough

You are already loved and accepted by the only One who matters, God.  Do not let the comparison trap prevent you from learning your true worth.  Your identity is found only in Christ Jesus.  He knows you by name and has redeemed you.  You belong to God and that is all that matters.

It is such a blessing to be loved by God.  It is such a blessing to be known by Him.  God doesn’t just love you because you are a part of the world that He loves.  He knows you personally and loves you individually; you are special and important to Him.  He sees you, knows what you’ve been through, and is there for you, working it together to your good.

“For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39 AMP

3 – You are Strong and Capable

I have struggled with feeling like I am not getting anywhere, that I haven’t accomplished what I’ve set out to.  At times like that, I try to remind myself that God may have a different plan for me than I do and trust that His is better.  Being His coworker means that we work together to bring about His purpose.  We are soldiers in His army.  We are called to win people to His kingdom, and He helps us to do so.

I have seen how my resilience has provided me a deeper connection to God as I have persevered in very difficult circumstances, often with only God to turn to.  Prospering in the midst of an attack shows God’s favor for me.  Every time Satan has closed a door, God has opened a better one!

“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” Philippians 4:13 AMP

4 – You are Chosen and Set-Apart, Yet Never Alone

I feel blessed to be chosen and set apart, to be considered true royalty.  I pray others will, too.  Living up to that starts with truly believing that God sees us as His daughters and loves us personally.

“…teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 AMP

It can be hard to believe that Jesus still has us in the palm of His hand when our lives are in chaos and nothing makes sense.  I didn’t have a lot growing up, so for such a long time, I didn’t see how chosen, set apart, and royal I was and am.  I was poor and weak and felt alone in a dark and scary world. But God made His presence known and comforted me.  And even when I went my own way awhile, He was faithful and didn’t let me stray too far.  He kept His hand of protection on my life.

5 – You are Amazing and Victorious

Sometimes it seems like my gifts and talents are hidden.  There are things I am good at but it is because I worked hard to learn the skills involved, such as writing.  But my natural talents have largely been left undiscovered.  Moving to LA, however, has helped me tap into my creativity.  You also have been blessed with a unique set of gifts and talents.  Use them to glorify God.

“I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.” – Psalms 139:14 AMP

Do not let Satan use fear to keep you from what God has called you to, which is first and foremost, salvation.  I remember when I used to be terrified that I would not make it to Heaven. Then – oh sweet freedom – I realized that I do not have to be perfect, that Jesus is. And that it is my belief that His sacrifice on the cross is what paid for my sins, is what saves me. I am grateful to Him for helping me to understand that.

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us].” – Romans 8:37 AMP

The next time you feel tempted to gain the approval of other flawed people, remember Who you belong to. You are the apple of His eye.

Until next time, Happy Summer! ☀️🫶🏽
