After almost three months in quarantine, a vacation is what I am most looking forward to. But with covid-19 still being a danger though, air travel is not something I would consider right now. That leaves a road trip, and who doesn’t like road trips? The best road trip I ever took was when I relocated to California five years ago. This was surprising because I did not think my mother and I could get along together in the car for that long, but we did and had great fun! It took us three days, but I would not have minded if we had taken longer.
When I attended the Arise 2019 Women’s Conference last year, we learned that Proverbs 31 women are models for other women of how to live virtuously. One of the things we learned that we should model is a blessed household by taking care of our families.

The key to our success was that we figured out very early on in the trip what our roles would be and were equally happy with them: she was the driver and I was the navigator. My mother, like many mothers and fathers I am sure, was not comfortable with handling the technology. And I was not comfortable with trying to offer technical support from behind the wheel! So after only one hour of that, we switched back and kept it that way for the rest of the three days.
Route 66
We did not take this historic route, but we took the next best thing: I-40. It runs alongside the famous Route 66. I am so glad my mother chose this route as it was very beautiful and for the first time I really got to see the southwestern part of the country. It was stunning!
But you do not have to drive cross-country to have a memorable family outing. There are plenty of scenic road trips in every part of the nation that you can take also. You can take one based on region or even one based on theme, such as a Civil Rights road trip. Pick one from this list on the Travel Channel’s website. Another alternative is to choose from this list of family road trips on Roadtrippers website. Once you have decided on a destination, it is time to start planning.
Road Trip Tips
Here are a few tips that I have learned about planning road trips:
Pack some snacks and water to keep it healthy. The best snacks to pack will fight hunger such as protein bars and fruit.
If you are traveling with children, involve them in planning the trip and bring activities to keep them entertained. Have them pack a small backpack with their favorite toys and then when they become bored, present them with a journal to write in; a sketchbook and washable marks for drawing; and/or travel games to play. Stop frequently and take out a jumprope or a ball at a park for some physical activity. Bring out those mason jar salads and have a picnic there, too.

If you are staying overnight in a hotel, pack one family bag with all of the things you will need for the night so you do not have to unpack the whole car.
Make a road trip playlist. Let everyone contribute song choices. What songs would you add? I might want to add them to mine. 😁
By the way, my mother and I did not have any of these things. We picked up snacks from gas stations, ate at restaurants, and drove 12 hours a day, stopping each evening to get a hotel room. But we still had fun. The point is, do something enjoyable with your family this summer.

So lovely that you had a great trip with your mum! My mum and I get on pretty well, but 3 days together in a car…. I’m not so sure!
Exactly what I thought, too! 😄
Love these tips and a road trip playlist is a must!

I love road trips and California sounds amazing with all the mounts and beaches..
Yes, California definitely has a lot of natural beauty! 😁
This article was completely inspirational to me. Right now I am stuck inside my own regional bubble of Atlantic Canada, but that should not stop me from getting out and exploring my own region. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you, I am so glad you are inspired! You are welcome and have fun! 😊
Love this! Road trips are always so much fun. My boyfriend and I just took a very short one to see our friend in Wisconsin.
Oh and p.s. I’m a Christian too! I am always so encouraged by finding my fellow sisters in Christ in the blogging world!
Thank you so much! And yes, I am encouraged when I find other Christian bloggers, too! Thank you for introducing yourself. 🤗💕🌸
I’ve always been interested in the idea of a road trip! Maybe covid-19 is the perfect excuse to finally take one. Great post!
Yes, they are so fun! Thank you 😊
Love road trips!
Great photos and information.
Thank you! 😊
Yeah, we can only do domestic travel now. Can’t wait to return to the original normal. I miss traveling.
I know, I can’t wait, either. 😔🙏🏽
I would love to Roadtrip more. Love the tips!
Thanks, me too! 😊
Aren’t road trips the best?! I personally think they’re the best way to travel. You get to see and experience so much more than if you were flying overhead. And they can be a great bonding experience for whoever you’re traveling with. You’ve included some helpful road trip tips! The most important thing is to enjoy the journey on the way to your destination. 😉
I totally agree, getting there is half the fun!!! 😁
Love it! My favorite tip is having one bag you need for just the night. Now that we have kids I’ll need that for our future travels. Thank you great post!
Thank you! Yes, I thought that was a great tip as well. 😊
I love your idea of packing one bag for the whole family if staying in a hotel. It can be so cumbersome to have a lot of bags to carry as well as wrangle kids along the way 😉
I read that tip long ago in a book, and though I haven’t had to use it myself, I thought it was such a good tip I have remembered it all these years. I’m glad it will be useful for someone. 😊
