Routines are important. I think we all learned that during the pandemic when the quarantine interrupted everyone’s. Having a routine is good for maintaining mental health. During times of uncertainty, a routine can help you cope with stress and anxiety because it gives you a sense of control. Routines give your day structure and helps you to be organized and focused.
Structuring your day with routines also helps to form good daily habits and improves productivity. But routines should not be limited to work tasks; you should also develop self-care routines, and as a daughter of God, that should include spiritual self-care. The lifestyle of a daughter of God has special habits that should be incorporated into your day, week, and throughout your year.
“Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.”
– Proverbs 31:30 AMP

1. Daily Routines
Prayer + Quiet Time
I like to have prayer and quiet time when I first wake up and again when I go to bed, but also at least one time during the day. In fact, that is how I deal with issues that arise during the day, especially if it is distracting me from my work. I pause and pray, and then I quiet everything around me and wait to hear from God about it. Satan loves manufacturing distractions, so going right to God with whatever lies he is trying to implant in your mind is the perfect way to deal with it.

Morning Devotion
After my prayer time, I like to go right into my morning devotion. I use the Bible app’s Bible plan feature to find a plan for my morning devotions. There are so many to choose from on every topic. I pick ones that are centered around women most of the time, but I also choose ones that are related to topics I want to learn more about or need help with. This is my favorite time of day. It really sets the tone for the entire rest of the day.
Another option is a Christian subscription box. I recommend Butterfly Box because not only do the beautiful products help you to keep Jesus at the center of your life, it supports other Christian businesses and is owned by women. If you would like to try Butterfly Box, use the code RUBIESORPEARLS20 for a 20% discount on your first box, or RUBIESORPEARLSBOGO for a free surprise box with your first box. You can only use one code at checkout, so make sure you choose wisely!
Affirmations
I must admit, I forget to do this quite a bit! As I mentioned earlier, Satan loves trying to implant lies into the minds of God’s children. Speaking Christian affirmations over yourself each morning edifies you and combats his efforts to undermine your confidence. Here is a set of Christian affirmations to print out and say each morning while you get ready for the day.

Praise and Worship
Praise and worship is not just for church! Focusing on God’s goodness is so uplifting, especially during times of uncertainty. As such, I have music on all day and even sometimes through the night. I have multiple playlists: I have a morning playlist that gets me hyped at the start of the day. With songs like Trading My Sorrows (Israel & New Breed), this is especially helpful on Mondays. I have a playlist for while I am working with songs like Give Him Glory (Deandre Patterson), so I remember Who I am working for. And I have two different playlists that I play at night whenever I have trouble getting to sleep. Which one I play depends on what I think the problem is. Next to morning devotion, praise and worship is my favorite part of my daily routine.

2. Weekly Routines
Church Attendance
So Sunday service has definitely looked different since the pandemic, but attending weekly should definitely still be part of your routine. I have been going online, but when it is safe, I will return in person.
Bible Study
Oftentimes, there is a night devoted to Bible study at church, usually Wednesdays. But we should also study the Bible on our own.
We have to learn the scriptures for ourselves and not just to memorize them for memory’s sake, but so that we apply God’s ways, not the world’s, to every aspect of our daily lives. Before we do anything, we should find out what God’s instructions are and do what He says. We also should know scriptures so that we can use them to defend ourselves when under spiritual attack. It is our sword!
I am excited to start my first creative arts worship Bible. Illustrating your faith with Bible journaling is a creative way to meditate on God’s Word! Have you ever illustrated your Bible before? Serving/Ministry
We can’t just sit at church and not serve. We have all been given spiritual gifts to use to serve both in and outside of church. Mine is teaching. At church, I usually serve in Children’s Church in some capacity, and I definitely love volunteering for Vacation Bible School. I once started my own ministry doing free reading assessments for parents of school-aged children.
Outside of church, we should be practicing hospitality, discipling younger women, praying for others and the like. Hospitality we should practice as much as possible. It can be as simple as sending someone you haven’t heard from in awhile a text to see how they have been. Even better, surprise them with a handwritten note. It is really a matter of showing others the love of God, which is what serving and ministry is all about.
3. Throughout the Year
Communion
One of the most important things that we need to do routinely is to take communion. How often will depend on the church you attend.
Fellowship
We should also spend time in fellowship with other believers, both in and out of Sunday Service. These opportunities can include Women’s Conferences, Prayer Breakfasts, retreats, and the like. I attended the Arise 2019 Women’s Conference and it inspired the topic for my blog!

Holidays
We should celebrate the holidays of our faith: Christmas, Easter, Holy Week. We should understand the meaning of them and make sure others do as well by minimizing pagan influences in our celebrations.

Missions
I have not gone on any missions trips, but this is definitely something that you can do in service to others. We are all to spread the Gospel, near and far. Have you been on one? If not, where would you go?
What routines do you include in your Christian lifestyle? Did I miss any? Please let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!

I read once that routines conserve our mental capacity. When we are in the habit of routine we don’t have to put the thought into it, thus saving our thoughts for more important activities. I love routines! I appreciate that you added a few weekly and annually, as we don’t usually think of these as routines yet, they should be that automatic. Great post! Grace and Peace
Yes, I have read that, too. And thank you so much! It was a pleasure to write. Grace and peace to you also! 😊🙏🏽
You have so much great advice in this post. I need to work more on fellowship and missions since I lack in those two areas the most.
Thank you so much, Tammy! I want to see improvements in those areas, too. The pandemic is definitely not helping! 😊🙏🏽
I was driving to work today worshipping and thinking how I need to go back to church in person. Virtual has its purpose, but oh my soul needs the feeling of gathering.
Thank you for the informative post.
I miss in-person church service, too! And you are welcome! I’m so glad you found it informative. 🥰
It’s great that you broke down routines into 3 categories, daily, weekly, and yearly. Thank you. It seems more attainable that way. Great post, dear friend!!
Thank you so much, Teresa! It does make it helpful to see it that way. 😊
These are great! My favorite time is my morning devotion with Christ. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I agree, that is my favorite time, too. 😊🙌🏽
Thank you for sharing. Our churches are open but we have been in such a habit of watching on-line that we don’t even think of it until its almost ready to start… and we are still in pjs. Definitely want to fellowship more and find ways to serve. Thank you for all the great reminders we can do to stay connected with God.
Aww, I completely understand. I have not resumed in-person church yet, myself. Hopefully soon. 😊 And you are so welcome! It was my pleasure. 🥰💖
